Item set
In his half century as a filmmaker, Billy Jackson served on crews for iconic Black filmmakers like William Greaves, Bill Gunn, Kathleen Collins, and Henry Hampton. He also founded Nommo Productions and Community Media, through which he has made his own documentaries and projects-for-hire, trained youth in filmmaking, programmed neighborhood movie screenings, and tirelessly advocated for “raising consciousness through film.”
His stature has risen with the award of funding from National Film Preservation Foundation to preserve “We Are Universal” and “Didn’t We Ramble On,” as well as subsequent screenings at MoMA.
